Still Video
Swimming Flip Kick Turns
This video was created to assist users in acquiring the skills needed to perform a flip kick turn while swimming. Flip kick turns are used when lap swimming too quickly and efficiently reverse swimming direction at the end of the lap lane. They can be tricky to master as it requires precise timing based on individual swimming speed and body dimensions. The video breaks the steps down into a sequence and demonstrates proper body positioning to help users understand the order of events that need to happen to complete a successful flip turn.
Still image video format was chosen for this application as a way to highlight the sequence of steps within the flip turn and synchronize this sequence with the voice narration. The narration for the video was recorded and edited using Audicity. Audio edits including filtering out some pauses, noises, etc. and layering in background music. The video was compiled using Windows Movie Maker to stream the images together, add captions, and include the narrative audio.
